Some updates on open research at Newcastle University

Clement Lee · January 13, 2026

Open Research has been quite a part of my work but I haven’t mentioned it much. It’s a good time to provide a summary:

  1. While I am part of a wider network - the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN), I associate myself more with being an Open Research Champion at Newcastle University. I gave a short presentation at the Welcome event.
  2. We run a reproducibiliTea journal club, and a few months ago I presented the famous paper on the Garden of Forking Paths (not the short story by Jorge Luis Borges). I guess this is even more relevant now, as one can ask AI agents to look into all these forking paths with ease.
  3. Together with the two other champions in the school, we ran an event on Open Access yesterday (slides here).
  4. We organised the University’s inaugural Open Research Conference last year. There will be one this year.
